The two great Italian World Champion drivers – Alberto Ascari and ‘Nino’ Farina – during a lull in practice for the 1952 German Grand Prix at the Nurburgring. Ascari was almost unbeatable in his Ferraris through 1952-53 by which time Farina was ageing, past his peak – but still fiercely competitive. I admired his relaxed-looking ‘long-armed’ driving style and copied it.
