Our Story
The GPL Collection is one of the most diverse and delightful collections of archive images of its kind. In essence, its content spans one hundred years of motor sport - 1902-2002 - and covers almost every aspect of this most majestic, dynamic and exciting endeavour. The GPL Collection preserves well over one million iconic images which we are slowly digitising to make them available. It is a private collection run by former racing driver and collector Paul Vestey and motor racing historian and author Doug Nye. Over many years this duo have worked together to assemble this unique collection and to archive it in a manner making it truly accessible for the widest range of uses. Based in the UK this unique collection preserves and presents the work of nine specific photographers - including several of the very best that the sport has ever embraced. From 35mm Kodachrome to 8x10 glass plate negatives the full collection - the majority of which has never been publicly available - is simply exquisite. Together with the worldwide history of motor racing, the Collection provides wonderful visual insights into many areas including the drivers, the teams, the technicians, the cars, the race tracks and of course simply 'The Scene' in general - revealing visions of life and times, and style and fashions behind the scenes 1902-2002...
